A pedestrian was crossing the street in Immokalee when she was hit by a school bus and run over by the rear tires of the bus. A crossing guard had given her the okay to cross the street. The school bus driver was making a left hand turn when there was still time left on the pedestrian crossing light.
The crossing guard told investigators that, just after the bus hit Gonzalez, she looked back at the pedestrian control light and two seconds remained on it. The crossing guard said this was several seconds after the bus hit Gonzalez, police reported.
The victim is in the hospital receiving treatment for her critical injuries. The driver of the school bus may be charged. The police are still investigating the accident.
