An 89-year-old man from Lakeland was killed when he was trying to cross State Road 37. He was struck by a freight truck. The pedestrian accident happened at the intersection with County Road 540A.
The victim
walked into the front left side of the truck’s trailer. He was airlifted to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.
The driver of the truck was not hurt. The police are still investigating the accident and deciding if charges against the truck driver are warranted.
