With personal injury protection (PIP) set to expire on October 1, 2007, the Florida Legislature is set to return to Tallahassee on Tuesday without dealing with this important issue. When PIP expires Floridians will be left with only property damage auto insurance. This insurance doesn’t cover hospital bills or doctor bills if you’re involved in a car accident. PIP covers up to $10,000 per person in medical costs regardless of fault in an accident. In a no-fault system, drivers can’t be sued unless they seriously injure someone. Even if a driver is sued, the claim cannot include expenses paid through PIP.
