Just about every day an injured client asks me or one of my partners about the choice of medical provider. Fellow InjuryBoard.com blogger, John M. Cooper, Norfolk, VA, has had the same experience and has posted a helpful article on the topic.

Family Doctor, Chiropractor or Orthopedist – Who Do You Choose?

Our clients often ask us who should I go see after an automobile wreck with a personal injury.

The choice of what kind of doctor to go see is up to the individual. There is no right answer. Generally, I, as an attorney, try to stay out of the decision. However, I do give information to folks who have had a personal injury so they can make a more informed choice for themselves.

The information John provides in the rest of his article is a pretty good summary of my thoughts as well. The needs of the injured in Virginia and Florida are not different.

I would add and underscore my belief that the primary goal of a personal injury attorney and the injured client in the selection of a treating doctor or other provider is the ultimate best physical recovery of the patient. There are plenty of doctors who are very efficient at scheduling, report-writing, billing and even testifying, but it is those who provide the best treatment who get my recommendation (if a recommendation becomes necessary).
