Doctors And Controlled Prescription Drugs May Not Mix

Comments Off

Miami personal injury lawyer Jon M. Herskowitz posts about a study conducted by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University that should light our hair on fire. Jon reports the study finds almost half of doctors and pharmacists have limited training in prescribing and handling controlled prescription drugs. More details about the study can be found at Under the Counter: The Diversion and Abuse of Controlled Prescription Drugs in the U.S.

In a recent malpractice case I learned during the deposition of the defendant doctor that he prescribed so many dangerous, controlled drugs simultaneously and improperly that a well-qualified expert in pharmacology said their use, as prescribed, was incompatible with survival. The unfortunate patient died of a prescription drug overdose.
